Leadership Comes From the Heart First

When I look back at all the great leaders that I have been lucky enough to have been around, the one thing that sticks out to me was how each of them led from the standpoint of people first. They cared and empathized with the people they led. I have had many coaches in my life, and many of them have been great leaders that helped shape who I am today. They cared about me and wanted me to learn lessons that would help me in my future. They helped me become mentally tougher and that has helped me through many tough times in my life. They used situations that we were all going through as teaching tools that we could use later on in our life. I always said that I wanted to judge the success of our baseball program by how our kids were doing 5, 10, 15, 20 years after playing in our program. Are they good husbands, fathers, and productive team players for your business. We cared about them as people and wanted to take every opportunity we could to help them learn and grow from all situations. You have the same opportunity every day, whether it is in business, athletics, education, or just in your everyday life. You have an opportunity to lead people to be stronger and to be more equipped to take on life's challenges. It can't be something that you just talk about, it has to be in your heart and you need to have a burning desire to make a positive impact in somebody else's life.
