Mindset and the Power to Do Great Things

Updated: Jul 20, 2020

You have the power to go out and do great things. Trust me, it’s there – but you have to decide whether or not to use that power.

So, what’s holding you back?

  • Are you scared of failure?

  • Does stepping outside of your comfort zone make you uneasy?

  • Are you content where you are?

Sure, those are valid, but where will you be happy if you’re still in the same place in 10 years? Twenty years? What about in your final days?

When I think about the end for me, I often ask myself whether I am going to look back at my life with a lot of regret or have the peace of mind that I did all that I could to use and help grow the gifts that were granted to me by God.

What I know for sure is that I, personally, do not want to live my life with regret and neither should you. That is why I rode a bull.

Stephen Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People says, “Start with the end in mind.”

And what I see as my “end” is that reaching my full potential means helping you reach yours using the unique gifts that have been granted to you.

So, let’s start working toward great things together with a few simple exercises we can do each day to shift our mindset to the positive:

  • Remember that we all, including you, have unique gifts that we can bring to the world.

  • Believe in yourself, keep grinding through the adversity, learn from it. Every time you encounter adversity take inventory of what you learned from going through it. How did you grow from it? And then remember that the next time adversity hits.

  • Negative thoughts bombard us constantly and can destroy us. Fight them off with positive self-talk and hard work. A negative thought is just that a thought that can be beat simply by convincing yourself that you can. Hard work cures all and beats self-doubt every time. Don’t let the negativity win the battle.

  • Gratitude is powerful. Now I have heard different people say different things about gratitude. For example, they say you should get up and list three to five gratitudes (or even as high as 10) to start your day. It puts your mind in a positive mindset to start off your day.

  • Every morning, ask yourself, “What three things can I be excited about today?”

Thank you Coach. Needed this today, particularly the part about pushing off negative thoughts. I am often reminded of Dory from Finding Nemo...’just keep swimming’. Onward and upward!
