Thoughts to Help You Get Through This Pandemic

Times are tough and how we handle it will go a long way in bringing our country closer together, united if you will. People are hurting by losing a loved one, losing a job, fighting a virus, not being able to be with people that mean the most to you. We are all affected by this pandemic. Our leaders are in a very tough situation when having to make decisions. If they open the economy back up it can save and bring back jobs. If the stay at home order stays in effect, they can save more lives and take the pressure off of our medical workers. How we view this impossible decision has so much to do with what we are personally experiencing at this time.

I am challenging you to take a different perspective right now. We need empathy and we need to see this from each other’s point of view. Reflect on how it feels to lose your job when your family is depending on you to put food on the table and to pay the rent/mortgage? How would you feel if you lost a loved one from this virus, or you or a loved one were in danger of getting it, or worse, dying? It is tough! We all have our ideas, wants, and needs, and that makes it tough. What we need to try to do is find some kind of middle ground. What can each of us do in this uncertain time? If we do open up gradually are you willing to wear a mask and continue to social distance? Both of these actions literally take no effort to do. Think about how powerful it would have been if the protestors would have been wearing masks and practiced social distancing to show that we can open up if everybody is willing to put on a mask and practice social distancing. Elite leaders get better, putting their people first when the noise hits and the STUFF hits the fan. Poor leaders get bitter, taking care of themselves first, and they blame others when the noise hits and the STUFF hits the fan. What kind of leader will you choose to be? Be better, not bitter.

What purpose do you have?

Many of us wake up, drive to, and work for 8 hours, go home, eat, and go to bed. Not much in between. We get caught up in the monotony of day to day living. Individually what can we do? We can take time to reflect. More than ever we have been forced to slow down, to stay at home, not spend so much time in the car, etc. This is a great time to reflect on your life. What is your purpose, your perspective, and your passion? When we look at this virus it can remind us how fragile life really is. Take some time to think about what your true purpose is, why are you here? I will give you a hint, once you realize that your purpose is bigger than yourself, your life will change for the better. As you reflect on your days, has this time changed your perspective? How fortunate we are to live in a highly educated country that has so many talented people working so hard to get us through this, to hopefully find a cure for COVID 19. Think if you lived in a third world country and trying to go through this? During this time, I have witnessed so many people getting outside to take walks and bike rides. A lot more than I usually do. This is giving us more time to live our passions. Take advantage of this time to live your passion, find it, or rediscover it, but live it. This time has given us time to reassess our purpose for being here, the perspective that we take into each day, and a chance to live our passion on a daily basis. So, I am going to challenge you to get better from this, not become bitter because of it.
