TRUST

Lack of trust = chaos. What is going on right now in our country is a lack of trust. We are lacking trust in our police; we know that there are amazing police officers who put it on the line to protect us every day. They come from all walks of life and come from all different racial backgrounds, but the acts of a few of these people have caused a lack of trust especially in the African American community. We have a lack of trust in our government, on both sides of the aisle. I really don’t want to get too political here but the lack of trust because of our government’s lack of willingness to work together for all of us has caused us to not know who and what to believe. There is a lot of things out there that have caused us to not trust. It has divided us as a country. Think what happens when we lose trust in the leadership of who we work for, or as the leader of the business when you lose the trust of the people working for you? When this happens, your business is in chaos. What happens when trust is lost in a relationship? Chaos.

So how do we fix this? Just like in any situation that trust has been lost it must be rebuilt. As a coach, if I felt like I was losing my team, losing their trust in me, I had to be aware of it first. I had to have an awareness of other people’s feelings. Feelings are real and they are what people are experiencing at the time. Then I had to step back and look at myself. What did I do that is causing a lack of trust. Then I had to go back to my purpose of why I was coaching. To cherish the opportunity to have a positive impact on the kids I was coaching, to get them to grow as a player and as a person. I had to redirect my perspective on how good I had it, that I had an opportunity every day to try and make a positive difference in somebody else’s life. And finally, I had to revisit my passion for serving others. It is all about caring for somebody else, respecting others, and having empathy for others and really wanting us to work together as one unit. And when you think about it that is why our forefathers came up with the name The UNITED States of America.
